Josep Tarradellas Barcelona-El Prat airport (IATA code: BCN, ICAO code: LEBL Catalan Aeroport Josep Tarradellas Barcelona-El Prat, Spanish Aeropuerto Josep Tarradellas Barcelona-El Prat) is the international commercial airport of Barcelona in Catalonia, Spain, located mostly in the municipality of El Prat de Llobregat.

With around 53 million passengers (2019), Barcelona-El Prat airport it is the second largest airport in Spain after Madrid-Barajas and the seventh largest in Europe. It serves as a hub for Air Nostrum, Ryanair and Vueling.

In the Barcelona area, there are also the smaller airports of Girona 90 km to the northeast and Reus 90 km to the southwest, which are mainly served by budget and charter airlines and some of which are also marketed as airports for Barcelona.

Location and transport links

Barcelona airport is located about 15 km southwest of downtown Barcelona, in the municipality of El Prat de Llobregat.

By road: The journey from the central Plaça de Catalunya in Barcelona to the airport “El Prat” takes between 20 and 40 minutes, depending on traffic. The approximately 14-kilometre-long route is signposted and leads via the Plaça d’Espanya to the city motorway C-31 (Autovia de Castelldefels towards Sitges) to the airport.

By train: Rodalies Barcelona’s R2 North line runs every 30 minutes from the airport’s T2 terminal via Sants Central Station to the central Passeig de Gràcia station in the city centre, ending in Maçanet-Massanes. The journey from the airport to Sants station takes about 20 minutes.

Barcelona airport Metro: From terminals T1 and T2, the L9 Sud metro line runs to the Zona Universitària. There are connections to the L1, L3, L5 and L8 lines.

Barcelona airport Bus: The Aerobús connects Plaça de Catalunya and Plaça d’Espanya with the airport. There is also line 46 between Plaça d’Espanya and the airport. The bus journey takes about 35-50 minutes (depending on traffic).

Barcelona El Prat airport is located about 12 km from the Catalan capital. With 44 million travellers each year, it is the second largest airport in Spain.

There are luggage lockers at Barcelona Airport in terminals T1 and T2B.

Whichever terminal you choose, the price is the same:

Between 0 and 2 hours: 6 €.
Between 2 and 24 hours: 10 €.
Beyond 24 hours: 10 € per day
More than 7 days: 7,74 € per day
Over 14 days: 4,29 € per day
For luggage weighing more than 30 kilos or having a specific size such as a surfboard or a guitar, the prices are a bit higher:

Between 24 hours and 15 days: 15 € per day
Beyond 15 days: 6,50 € per day

The baggage drop-off service in Terminal T1 of Barcelona Airport is located on floor 0, on the level of La Plaza. To get there, simply follow the signs for Baggage and Luggage Storage and Consignas.

For Terminal T2, Barcelona Airport’s luggage lockers are located on the level of the check-in hall in Terminal T2B.
